Five candidates of the 47th BCS were injured in clashes with police at Dhaka's Shahbagh this evening during a march towards the chief adviser's residence, Jamuna.
The injured -- Shakil Ahmed, 26; Ashiqur Rahman, 25; Shahinur, 28; Abrar Shahriar Ullas, 28; and Riaz, 27 -- were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Shahinur sustained a head injury from a baton charge.
Inspector Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed that five injured candidates arrived at the emergency unit in the evening and were receiving treatment.
Injured candidates said the march began at the Central Shaheed Minar around 12:30pm. As protesters tried to proceed towards Jamuna in the afternoon, police blocked their way and used water cannons, sound grenades, and batons to disperse them, leaving several injured.
Candidates alleged they were given only 50 days to prepare for the BCS written exam. They said that holding the written test on November 27 would be unjust and demanded more preparation time from the Public Service Commission.
Protesters threatened tougher action, including blockades, if their demands are not met.
