Two policemen of Gazipur Metropolitan Sadar Police Station were injured after being stabbed by robbers in Gazipur early today.
The injured are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Abdur Rashid and Constable Saiful Islam.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan said the attack took place in Madhya Bhora area of the city around 12:30am when police conducted a raid in the area last night.
A group of robbers suddenly assaulted the officers, leaving both of them seriously injured with sharp weapons. Hearing their screams, nearby residents rushed to the spot, prompting the robbers to flee.
The injured officers were rescued and taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
The hospital's Director Mohammad Aminul Islam told The Daily Star that ASI Abdur Rashid required stitches for deep wounds on his forehead and lip and also suffered injuries to his knee.
Constable Saiful Islam was briefly unconscious after being struck on the head. He lost two teeth and suffered injuries to his lip and eye. Both officers are now undergoing treatment.
Police said operations are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the attack.
