Amal Foundation, in partnership with WomenStrong International (USA), has launched the Future Roots: Climate Hub for Youth project in Bangladesh to promote women's leadership and youth engagement in climate resilience.
The inauguration, held on Monday at the RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium, University of Dhaka, brought together young leaders, academics, and representatives from development and climate sectors to discuss inclusive approaches to women‑led climate action in Bangladesh.
The event featured a panel discussion, interactive sessions, and the unveiling of Future Roots, which aims to build a network of young women driving local climate solutions and community innovation. Participants shared views on gender equality, climate policy, and national adaptation strategies.
Esrat Karim, founder and executive director of Amal Foundation, said the initiative seeks to place women and youth at the centre of climate response.
"Future Roots marks a new beginning — empowering young women to lead in climate resilience and innovation. At Amal Foundation, we believe in the power of youth to turn ideas into action and build a sustainable, inclusive future," she said.
Renowned genetic scientist Dr Abed Chaudhury stressed the importance of gender inclusion in climate discourse.
"Mitigation is about reducing emissions; adaptation accepts that climate change is inevitable. Yet, gender remains an overlooked dimension — women's roles and rights must be recognised in climate action," he said.
Dr Rahul Mathew Nimmagadda, deputy director of resource development and communications at World Vision Bangladesh, said:
"Building capacity through innovation and collaboration is vital to support climate‑vulnerable communities. Only by working together can we build a sustainable future for Bangladesh."
The programme concluded with a call to integrate gender equity and youth leadership into national climate agendas. Future Roots will continue engaging universities, innovators, and local organisations throughout the year, promoting inclusive climate strategies aligned with SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
