Three held with 2 foreign pistols, 60 bullets in Dhaka

Detectives have arrested three alleged criminals along with three foreign-made pistols, 60 bullets from Dhaka's Shyampur yesterday.

The arrestees are Jahangir Alam Titu, 36, Abdur Razzak Shanu, 38, and Mamun, 37, said Amir Khosru, deputy commissioner (DB) of Ramna Division.

He said the trio admitted during primary questioning that they used the firearms to maintain control over local drug spots and to carry out criminal activities.

"We will look into whether the firearms were rented for contract killings or if there was any plan to use them ahead of the next general election," the DC said while briefing reporters at DMP media centre today.

Apart from the firearms and ammunition, the DB team during the raid also recovered 800 yaba pills, and 8.5kg of cannabis from their possession.

Replying to a query, the DB official said the arrestees earlier faced multiple cases under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act with different police stations.

Two cases have been filed with Kadamtali Police Station over the incident.

At least three people, including a top-listed criminal and a Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal leader, were shot dead with illegal firearms in Dhaka over the last eight days.
