All illegal mobile phones will be shut down in Bangladesh from December 16. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission BTRC has said that a new National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system is being launched in the country. This project will be inaugurated by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications on December 16. Under this system, only approved, standard and legally imported mobile phones will be able to connect to the mobile network. Phones with illegal or cloned IMEI numbers will not be able to connect to the network.
