Switzerland's Sika begins production in Bangladesh

Switzerland-based construction chemical manufacturer Sika Bangladesh Limited has commenced production at its factory located in the Meghna Industrial Economic Zone (MIEZ) in Narayanganj.

The newly established facility will produce materials used in construction, automotive bonding, sealing and protection applications.

An inauguration ceremony was held at the factory premises today (3 November). Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Rengg attended the event as the chief guest, while Mostafa Kamal, chairman and managing director of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI), was present as the special guest.

Sika has invested 5.19 million Swiss francs (CHF) to establish the new production facility, which covers 80,945 square metres of land. The plant includes two production lines — liquid admixtures and concrete essentials, and another for powder-based products.

Sika is a global leader in the development and production of systems and products for bonding, sealing, damping, reinforcing, and protecting in both the building and motor vehicle sectors. The company operates in over 100 countries, runs more than 400 factories, and employs around 34,000 people worldwide.

Sanjiban Roy Nadi, country head of Sika Bangladesh, said the Bangladesh operation marks Sika's 100th subsidiary. "Sika is everywhere. Sustainability remains at the core of our innovation — we focus on durability, energy efficiency, and material optimisation in all our solutions."

The Bangladesh construction chemical market is worth more than $100 million, offering strong potential for sustainable growth.

According to company representatives, the new plant will boost supply chain efficiency, expand local production, and generate jobs. It also launched a high-performance tile adhesive for the Bangladesh market, offering greater durability and bond strength than conventional mortar.
