Four people, including a female garment worker, were injured in separate knife attacks during muggings in Dhaka early today.
The muggers also made away with an auto-rickshaw, cash, and mobile phones, victims said.
Around 6:30am, three plumbers — Aminul Islam, 28, Rajon, 22, and Ashraful Islam, 30, — were stabbed by a group of muggers in Jamtola Commissioner Goli area of East Rampura.
The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) .
Aminul's brother, Md Rifat, said the three victims and he live together in a mess in Rampura and work as plumbers.
"This morning, the four of us were going out by auto-rickshaw to have breakfast when 7–8 unidentified muggers stopped our vehicle and brandished sharp weapons," he said.
"Seeing the weapons, the driver and I fled, leaving the others behind. The muggers then stabbed Aminul, Rajon, and Ashraful and stole about Tk 20,000, their mobile phones, and the rickshaw," he added.
In another incident, Jannat Akter, a sweater factory worker, said she was walking to work around 7:30am when a youth intercepted her near Jurain Gas Pipe area and attacked her with a sharp weapon, injuring her in the neck and abdomen.
"He tried to snatch my money and phone, but when I screamed for help, locals rushed in and caught the attacker. Later, a passerby brought me to the hospital," she said.
Md Ayub, officer-in-charge of Kadamtoli police station, locals beat up one of the muggers when they attacked a woman.
Both the muggers and the injured victims are undergoing treatment at DMCH, the OC said.
Inspector Md Farouk, in-charge of DMCH police camp, said the injured were receiving treatment. "They told us they were attacked and injured by muggers," he added.
