Six held with firearms over Raozan businessman’s murder

Chattogram district police early today arrested six individuals in connection with the murder of Abdul Hakim, a local businessman and BNP activist.

Police arrested the six individuals during a drive at the residence of Ayub Ali Sowdagar in Chowdhuryhat area of Noapara, under the jurisdiction of Raozan Police Station, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Detective Branch) Md Rasel.

Officers recovered five foreign-made pistols, multiple rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the crime.

The suspects confessed to their direct involvement in the killing during preliminary interrogation, the police official said.

He added that the seized weapons were used in the fatal shooting of Hakim, who was gunned down near Madunaghat Bridge on October 8 in a daylight attack. The assailants reportedly blocked his private jeep before opening fire.

Hakim was known to be a close associate of BNP leader Gias Kader Chowdhury.

Earlier, four others were arrested in connection with the case. With the latest arrests, the total number of detainees now stands at ten.

The murder case was initially filed by Hakim's family with Hathazari Police Station against unidentified attackers.

Authorities said further details would be disclosed at a press briefing later today.
