Six burnt in explosion at Narayanganj dyeing factory

At least six people suffered burn injuries in an explosion at a dyeing factory in the BSCIC's industrial estate of Fatullah, Narayanganj, this morning.

They were admitted to National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, said Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the institute.

"The extent of their burns will be determined after assessment," he told The Daily Star around 11:15am.

The injured have been identified as factory workers Al Amin,30, Azizullah, 32, Md Selim 35, Md Jalal Molla 40, Md Nazmul Huda 35, and security supervisor Nur Mohammad, 35.

According to the victims, they were working in the boiler room on the ground floor of the factory around 8:30am when a loud explosion suddenly occurred from the gas line. Within moments, the room caught fire, leaving all six of them with severe burns.

Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said, "We have learned that the incident occurred this morning at a factory named MS Dye and Printing Limited. However, the factory authorities did not inform us."

A police team has been sent to the scene upon receiving the news, he added, saying that further details will be known after investigation.
