The Manipuri community's largest festival, Raspurnima, will feature a special screening of Manipuri films tomorrow in Komolganj, Moulvibazar.
The programme presents an anthology film "Nunshipi" ("Pity Women"), made up of three short films — "Inaphi," "Tiras", and "Hunashori"— each telling a separate, heartbreaking story of a working Manipuri woman. Though the narratives are distinct, they are bound by a common thread that gives the anthology its shape.
Director and screenwriter Shuvhashis Sinha says the shorts were produced under the Tahara banner over the past 18 months and have since toured the international film festival circuit, winning awards. Festival rules have kept the films off commercial platforms, so the team decided to bring them to Raspurnima for local audiences.
The films were written and directed by Shuvhashis Sinha. Producers are Uttam Kumar Singh and Sajedul Islam; cinematography is by Abid Mallik; art direction by Sajal Kanti Singh; set design by Sourav Kumar Singh; editing by Faisal Nipun; and music arranged by Sharmila Sinha.
Jyoti Sinha plays the lead role. The ensemble also features Gaurhari Chatterjee, Bidhan Singh, Swarnali Sinha, Samarjit Singh, Upendra Singh, Sushant Singh, Shyamoli Sinha and Anjana Sinha, among others.
On November 5, there will be two screenings: the first at 5 pm and a second at 6 pm. Both shows will be held at the Manipuri Lolitkala Academi, Kamalganj, Moulvibazar, Sylhet.
