Political parties urged to submit FIRs by 30 Nov for withdrawal of 'false cases'

The national committee tasked with reviewing harassment cases has again urged political parties to submit the FIRs of cases they want withdrawn to the solicitor wing of the law ministry by 30 November, in order to expedite the disposal of politically motivated cases filed during the Awami League government's tenure.

According to an official handout issued yesterday (17 November), the solicitor wing of the law ministry has already instructed public prosecutors and city public prosecutors to send lists of so-called "false cases" filed against political leaders and activists between 6 January 2009 and 5 August 2024, particularly those lodged before and after the parliamentary elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024.

To make the withdrawal process faster and more inclusive, public notices have also been published in national newspapers.

So far, the national committee has recommended the withdrawal of nearly 20,000 cases.
