Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said there is no information on whether the attacker who shot Dhaka-8 independent MP candidate and Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi has crossed the border.
"Police are carrying out operations in all possible areas, and intelligence officers are active," said DMP Media and Public Relations Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman while speaking at a press conference today (14 December).
He said investigations began immediately after the attack and information from various sources is being analysed, but there is no confirmed evidence that the attacker has left the country.
He again said that the police collected CCTV footage after the 12 December attack at Paltan. The footage helped identify the main suspect. "RAB arrested Mohammad Abdul Hannan, the owner of the motorcycle used in the attack, and handed him over to Paltan Police Station. His involvement is under investigation."
A reward was announced to encourage the public to provide information and help ensure a quick arrest, Talebur said.
The victim's family has not yet filed a complaint, but the police are continuing their investigation. No evidence has yet emerged that the attack was a targeted killing, but all possibilities are being considered, he added.
Security plans have been made for all candidates, including heavyweights, and the situation is expected to improve as the election approaches, he further added.
Earlier, on 12 December Sharif Osman Hadi was shot during campaigning in Bijoynagar and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
