A Department of Social Services worker, Md Khairul Amin, from Asma union in Barhatta upazila of Netrokona district, has been accused of accepting money from residents in exchange for arranging old-age, widow, and disability allowance cards.
Barhatta Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Khabirul Ahsan today confirmed receiving a formal complaint.
According to the complaint, filed by Md Shahiduzzaman Khan of Koilati village on behalf of the victims, Khairul Amin allegedly took Tk 500 each from 64 individuals, amounting to Tk 32,000, promising to provide them with social safety net cards. However, only three cards were issued in over a year.
Shahiduzzaman said, "When only three cards were issued, we asked him about it. He replied that the higher officials at the office would not do the work for such a small amount and demanded more money."
Attempts to contact Khairul Amin were unsuccessful as his mobile phone remained switched off.
Barhatta Upazila Social Services Officer ASM Golam Hossain said, "I have heard about the matter. If the allegations are proven in the investigation, the department will take action against him."
UNO Md Khabirul Ahsan added, "A written complaint has been submitted at my office. A probe committee has already been formed to investigate the matter."
