The National Citizen Party (NCP) has denied allegations that its activists took control of an Awami League office in Chattogram.
The party made the statement at a press conference held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday at Biplob Udyan near Gate No 2 in the port city.
The statement comes after reports that NCP members had occupied an Awami League office at the Dost Building in the city's Kotwali area yesterday.
At the briefing, NCP Joint Coordinator Erfanul Haq read a written statement, while Arif Moinuddin, another joint coordinator, answered questions from journalists.
Arif said that although AL's political activities were banned, its members were still carrying out "anti-state" activities and illegally using the office that was supposed to be closed after August 5 last year.
He said NCP members went there, found evidence of illegal activity, and decided to stay at the spot to "maintain peace", not to seize it.
"As long as a drop of blood runs in our veins, we will not allow any fascist organisation to rise in Bangladesh," Arif said.
Other NCP leaders, including Rafsan Jani and Jasim Uddin Opel, were also present at the press conference.
