Man beaten to death over robbery suspicion in Cumilla’s Chandina

A man was beaten to death in Cumilla's Chandina upazila late last night over suspected robbery.

The incident took place in Chandpur village under Barkoi union, Chandina Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Javed Ul Islam confirmed today.

The deceased was identified as Md Musha, 26, of Kaduti village in the union.

According to police and local sources, Moynal Hossain, a mobile phone trader from Chandpur village, was robbed of Tk 3.5 lakh and several mobile phones around 10 days ago.

Following the incident, Moynal suspected Musha. The suspicion deepened as Musha had been missing from his home since the day after the robbery.

As Musha returned home last night, Moynal, accompanied by his associates, went to Musha's home. They took him to Chandpur village and brutally beat him, leaving him died on the spot.

The attackers abandoned the body there and went into hiding.

On information, police recovered the body today.

The OC said, "Preliminary information suggests that Musha was a petty thief."

His body has been sent to the morgue of Cumilla Medical College for an autopsy. Preparations are underway to file a case over the incident.

"We are conducting search to arrest Moynal and others involved in the incident," added the OC.
