Krishna Nandi, president of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hindu Committee in Dumuria, is likely to be nominated by the party to contest the Khulna-1 (Batiaghata -Dacope) constituency, according to party sources.
Nandi himself confirmed the development.
Speaking to The Daily Star, Krishna Nandi said, "They have confirmed me for the Khulna-1 seat. You will know officially once Jamaat makes the announcement."
He also added that he would begin campaign activities soon. "The central ameer and secretary general, Golam Parwar, will introduce me formally. After that, I will start working," he said.
Asked when central leaders might visit the constituency, Nandi replied, "They will come very soon."
Mizanur Rahman, secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami's Khulna metropolitan unit, told The Daily Star that the final decision would come from the central leadership.
"Unofficially, his name is being considered, but nothing is final yet," he said.
Meanwhile, the BNP has already announced candidates for five of the six constituencies in Khulna. Khulna-1 (Batiaghata-Dacope) remains the only seat for which it has not yet declared a nominee.
