Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said the party's final list of parliamentary election candidates will be announced "at the appropriate time".
"Jamaat had already announced its preliminary candidate list for all parliamentary seats regionally a year ago. The final list will be declared by the central committee at the appropriate time, In Sha Allah," he said while speaking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today (4 November), upon returning from visits to Saudi Arabia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Turkey.
Responding to a question on election preparations, Shafiqur Rahman said while the BNP has published a list of candidates for 237 constituencies, it has not termed it final.
He also said, "We will not contest the election alone. Considering all aspects in the interest of the country and the nation, we will accommodate many others," he added, noting the possibility of forming alliances.
He urged authorities to extend the voter registration deadline for expatriates by at least 15 days, saying many were unable to register due to technical complications.
Regarding his recent visit to Turkey, Jamaat ameer said he held meetings at both governmental and non-governmental levels, and discussed issues "in the interest of the country and the people."
On the political situation and the election, he said Jamaat welcomes the government's request for political parties to reach a consensus within one week.
