A woman in Cumilla has sued her husband, accusing him of abetting four others to rape her for three consecutive days in a brick kiln following a marital dispute.
The victim filed the case against the husband and four others with Chauddagram Police Station yesterday.
Police have since arrested the husband and his four associates and sent them to jail through the court.
The incident took place in a workers' shed at a brick field in Mirshwani area of Kalikapur Union under Chauddagram upazila.
The four associates of the husband are Raju Ahmed, Belal Hossain, Hridoy, Mohin Uddin -- all from Ramharitaluk village under Sudharam Police Station in Noakhali.
Chauddagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hilal Uddin Ahmed said, "Based on the victim's complaint, police conducted an overnight operation and arrested the five accused.
"A case has been filed, and the accused were sent to jail on Saturday afternoon. The survivor's medical examination has been completed. We are investigating whether anyone else was involved."
According to the case statement, the 20-year-old woman married a labourer from the brick field in 2023. As her husband was addicted to drugs, their relationship deteriorated, prompting her to return to her father's house in Noakhali. Earlier this month, a family meeting was held during which the husband promised to reconcile.
On October 15, he brought her back, saying they would stay in Cumilla town. Instead, he took her to the Mirshwani area and arranged accommodation at the brick field through labourer Belal Hossain.
The victim told journalists that on the night of October 16, around 10:00pm, Belal, with her husband's assistance, raped her. She was then kept confined in the room.
On the night of October 18, labourers Hridoy and Mohin Uddin entered the room and raped her again, also with her husband's help. On October 20, Hridoy again tried to rape her while she was asleep, and when she resisted, her husband beat her and warned her not to tell anyone.
Other workers at the brick field eventually learned about the incident and informed her father. With the help of locals, she was rescued last Thursday, the case statement said.
