National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhter Hossen today said that the government is deliberately stalling the reform process, likening the situation to a game of snakes and ladders.
Speaking at a press conference at the NCP office in Dhaka's Rupayan Trade Center, Akhter said the National Consensus Commission laid out recommendations after discussions with political parties, and the government was expected to issue an order based on those recommendations.
"Instead, they held a press conference addressing the involved political parties. It seems like the government is playing snakes and ladders with the issue of reform," he said.
Akhter alleged that the government is attempting to shift responsibility for reforms onto political parties rather than taking action itself.
He also criticised political parties for failing to implement the reform pledges made in July, accusing them of ignoring the mandate of the mass uprising and disregarding public support. "The July Charter implementation order must be issued as soon as possible. People will not support any action that derails reforms or disrupts the election," he said.
Akhter further claimed that a faction within the government is working to sabotage reforms.
