Last Saturday (Novemer 1) night, the Whitlam Leisure Centre in Liverpool, Sydney, turned into a grand celebration for expatriate Bangladeshis as two generations of Bangladeshi band music — Miles and Artcell — performed together on the same stage for the first time.
Organised by Greenfield Entertainment MusicFest had already generated significant excitement among the Bangladeshi community in Australia. Ahead of the event, Miles expressed their enthusiasm through a video message. Band member Hamin Ahmed said, "Sydney has always been special to us. Back in 1996, we were probably the first Bangladeshi band to perform in Australia. This marks our fifth visit here, and the love from the audience is always overwhelming."
He added, "We knew it was going to be a memorable show. We wanted everyone to sing along, to shout, and that's exactly what our fans did." Guitarist Turjo shared, "We're touring five cities across Australia, but Sydney feels entirely different. The audience made the night unforgettable."
As Miles performed timeless hits like "Chand Tara Surjo", "Neela", "Dhiki Dhiki", and "Firiye Dao", the hall filled with nostalgia and cheers echoed through the venue.
Opening the night was the post-90s rock band Artcell, who electrified the younger crowd with songs such as "Dhushor Shomoy", "Dukkho Bilash", and "Poth Chola". Their signature rock sound and intricate compositions captivated the audience. Lakemba resident Mohammad Irfan Khan said, "Miles was the soundtrack of our youth, but seeing Artcell share the same stage was a whole new experience. This night will be hard to forget."
Greenfield Entertainment spokesperson Faisal Azad said, "It was our dream to bring two top bands from two generations together. The Bangladeshi community in Sydney had been waiting for something like this for a long time. It's a milestone in the city's concert history."
Running until 11:30pm, the Music Fest was more than just a concert — it was a celebration of two eras of Bangladeshi band music. The show also featured a heartfelt tribute to late band member Shafin Ahmed by Miles.
