France seeks to boost investment in Bangladesh, says ambassador

France has long worked to advance trade relations with Bangladesh and now aims to increase its investments further, says French Ambassador Jean-Marc Serre-Charlet.

He met Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin today (24 November) at the adviser's office in the Secretariat to discuss ways to deepen trade and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and France.

Both sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral trade ties, boosting investment, and expanding overall economic collaboration.

French Ambassador Jean-Marc Serre-Charlet highlighted France's particular interest in Bangladesh's pharmaceutical and ICT sectors, noting strong potential for future engagement.

Bashiruddin thanked the envoy for France's interest, describing the country as a long-standing trade partner. He noted that there is considerable scope to expand this partnership through diversified trade and enhanced cooperation.

He noted that French investment would boost capital inflow, with Bangladesh's low labour and production costs making it an attractive destination for investors.

Additional Secretary Md Abdur Rahim Khan of the Ministry of Commerce was also present at the meeting.
