Begum Tahura Ali, former member of parliament from a reserved seat for women and director of the Citizen Group, passed away at a hospital in Dhaka early today.
Family sources said she had been undergoing treatment at United Hospital for several weeks due to multiple health complications.
She is survived by one son and three daughters, including well-known actor and singer Meher Afroz Shaon.
In a Facebook post, Shaon wrote, "With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother Begum Tahura Ali."
Her first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held after Asr prayer at Gulshan Azad Mosque, followed by a second Janaza after Maghrib at Rahim Metal Central Mosque in Tejgaon.
