A Dhaka court today sent Sheikh Abdul Amik, former deputy inspector general (prisons) of the Department of Prisons, to jail in an anti-terrorism case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order after the Detective Branch (DB) produced him before the court, said a court staffer.
Today, Zahid Hasan, a sub-inspector of the DB, filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station against 73-year-old Amik a day after he was picked up from his Siddheshwari house in Dhaka.
The case was filed for reportedly spreading propaganda against the prison administration, the army, and the government through various provocative, defamatory, false, and fabricated posts on Facebook.
Furthermore, he made posts in support of the banned organisation Chhatra League on social media, added the case statement.
The accused retired from his service on April 29, 2011.
