Flick hails ‘wonderful’ La Masia after Barcelona youngsters shine in Osasuna win

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick praised his club's famed academy after a 2-0 LaLiga victory over Osasuna at the Camp Nou, highlighting the impact of several young players in the defence.

"We controlled the game; in defence we did very well," Flick said after the match. "Maybe we didn't have great chances, but we have the three points."

The win moved Barcelona seven points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table. Raphinha sealed the victory with a double in the final 20 minutes, but Flick reserved much of his praise for Barca's academy products.

Three members of the back four were 23 or younger -- Gerard Martin, Alejandro Balde and 18-year-old Pau Cubarsi -- while fellow La Masia graduate Eric Garcia impressed in midfield.

"Eric gives us stability, he played a fantastic game," Flick said. "Gerard has improved a lot. And I've already spoken enough about Cuba in the past. Playing at this level at 18 years old is incredible."

Flick added: "I have to congratulate La Masia for what they have done with the young players. It's really wonderful."

Osasuna coach Alessio Lisci described his side's performance as a missed opportunity. "We didn't come here on holiday, but to score," Lisci said, lamenting his team's inability to convert their chances and break down Barca's defence.
