To gain real-field experience ahead of the upcoming general election, the Election Commission is set to organise a mock voting exercise on 29 November.
The EC's public relations office shared the details today (25 November), saying the mock voting will take place at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Boys' High School, involving voters of all categories.
Just like an actual election, polling officials, polling agents and voters will all take part in this simulated voting process, the EC Secretariat's public relations wing confirmed The Business Standard.
According to EC sources, the mock voting will replicate actual polling conditions: voters will queue up and cast ballots following standard procedures.
The only difference is that the ballot will not contain the names or symbols of political parties or candidates.
From vote casting to result announcement, all formal steps of an election will be included in the mock process.
Sources further said the mock voting aims to help election commissioners directly observe the challenges voters typically face at a polling centre, how long it takes an average voter to cast a ballot and what measures may be required in polling centre management.
They will also assess the facilities needed for elderly voters, pregnant women and persons with disabilities.
Based on this experience, the EC plans to determine how many voters a polling centre or booth should ideally accommodate in the upcoming national election and the referendum.
