Dhaka–Mymensingh highway has been blocked for about three hours following a road accident in the Hurricane area of Gazipur, leaving commuters stuck in long tailbacks.

The incident occurred around 8:30 pm this evening, when a vehicle ran over a pedestrian crossing the highway, severely injuring his legs.

According to police sources, locals rescued the victim and immediately rushed him to a hospital.

In protest, agitated people took to the highway, stopping all traffic and demanding action. The blockade caused a massive traffic jam, leading to suffering for passengers and drivers.

Law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. At 10:45 pm, Inspector Md Shafiq of Gazipur Traffic Police told The Daily Star, "The accident occurred when a speeding car hit a pedestrian in the Hurricane area.
