Court orders submission of Nixon Chowdhury, wife’s tax records to CID

A Dhaka court has ordered the submission of income tax records of former Faridpur-4 lawmaker Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, better known as Nixon Chowdhury, and his wife Tarin Hossain, along with two others, to the Criminal Investigation Department.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez issued the order today (4 November) in response to a petition filed by the CID.

The other individuals named in the case are Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, former Madaripur-1 MP and ex-chief whip of parliament, and Md Shahadat Hossain, former Madaripur district council chairman and Nixon's personal secretary.

Earlier, CID Financial Crime Unit Sub-Inspector Md Moniruzzaman filed an application seeking copies of their income tax documents and related papers.

The application stated that the accused, Nixon Chowdhury and his associates allegedly abused their power to amass wealth through illicit means, purchasing flats, vehicles and land, and also became involved in money laundering offences.

An investigation into the money laundering allegations is currently underway, it added.

The CID argued that obtaining their income tax documents and relevant papers from 2010 to 2025 is essential for ensuring a fair and impartial investigation.
