Bangladeshi entrepreneurs have invited Chinese investors to invest in the country's textile sector, particularly in sick and non-operational industries, through joint ventures.
During a meeting with leaders of the Bangladesh-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) and the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB) at the CEAB office in Dhaka today (25 November), Bangladeshi entrepreneurs highlighted the investment opportunities in this sector.
Md Khorshed Alam, president of BCCCI, emphasised opportunities for joint ventures with Chinese investors, especially in rehabilitating sick or non-operational industrial units, noting that revitalising dormant facilities would yield more effective commercial outcomes than establishing entirely new industries, according to a BCCCI press release.
He further assured that BCCCI is ready to provide necessary support services, including assistance in expediting SB clearance procedures within the legal framework for CEAB members.
Han Kun, president of CEAB, highlighted several priority areas for enhanced cooperation, including infrastructural development, Government-to-Government (G2G) projects, power generation and renewable energy initiatives, and expansion of trade in construction materials, the release reads.
He reaffirmed CEAB's commitment to strengthening bilateral economic relations and expressed confidence that coordinated and collaborative efforts between BCCCI and CEAB would be more effective in identifying challenges, proposing policy-level recommendations, and resolving outstanding issues.
Jamilur Rahman proposed the establishment of a Joint Working Body comprising representatives from both BCCCI and CEAB. The proposed body would lawfully identify, assess, and address bilateral trade-related disputes, operational barriers, and other challenges faced by Bangladeshi and Chinese businesses.
Among others, AZM Azizur Rahman, senior vice president of BCCCI; Mike Ge, president of the CEAB Textile and Garments Branch; Tao Tao, marketing director of CEAB's Bangladesh Branch; Ma Rui, vice president of CEAB; and Zhou Meimei, secretary of CEAB, spoke at the meeting.
