The pioneer of rock music in Bangladesh, Azam Khan's band Uchcharon returns to television tonight with a live musical special that pairs performances with behind-the-scenes memories of the late singer's songs.
The programme, titled "Band Carnival", will air at 8 pm on Enigma TV and will be streamed simultaneously on the channel's YouTube and Facebook pages.
The one-hour show will spotlight Uchcharon's contemporary line-up, who will perform Azam Khan's best-known numbers and relate the stories behind them.
Producer Yasir Arafat Juel has described the evening as both a concert and a conversation – band members will share memories, songwriting details, and the group's four-decade history.
The relaunch follows a formal tripartite agreement signed on November 8, between Azam Khan's family, Uchcharon and event agency Cool Exposure, which secured the family's ownership of Azam Khan's name, image and copyrights while empowering the band to perform and promote his catalogue domestically and abroad. Organisers say Impress Telefilm and Channel i are supporting the project's rollout.
Formed soon after Bangladesh's Liberation War, Uchcharon first rose to national prominence in 1972 with BTV broadcasts of "Eto Shundor Duniya e Kichu Na Robe Re" and "Char Kalema Sakkhi Debe". The band's revival — and tonight's live special — are being framed as both a tribute and a commercial relaunch designed to introduce Azam Khan's repertoire to new generations and to take Uchcharon back onstage at home and overseas.
