Anti-Terrorism Case: Ex-DIG prisons sent to jail

A Dhaka court yesterday sent Sheikh Abdul Amik, former deputy inspector general (prisons), to jail in an anti-terrorism case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam passed the order after the Detective Branch produced him before the court.

Zahid Hasan, a sub-inspector of DB, on Wednesday filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station against 73-year-old Amik, a day after he was picked up from his Siddheshwari house in Dhaka.

The case was filed for reportedly spreading propaganda against the prison administration, the army, and the government through various provocative, defamatory and fabricated posts on Facebook.

He also made posts in support of the banned Chhatra League, said the case statement.

Amik retired from his service in 2011.
