AKIJ Resource applies to Bangladesh Bank to set up digital bank

On the final day for digital bank applications, AKIJ Resource Limited submitted a proposal to the Bangladesh Bank to establish a digital bank named "Munafa Islamic Digital Bank PLC."

Engr Md Firoz Kabir, chief digital and innovation officer of AKIJ Resource, submitted the application to the Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD) of the central bank today (2 November).

Through this initiative, AKIJ Resource aims to usher in a new era of digital banking in Bangladesh, focusing not only on technology but also on empowering people with financial accessibility and freedom.

"A digital bank will be a platform where every person, every dream, and every possibility are connected through technology. Our vision is to build a Bangladesh where financial services are accessible to all, not limited to a few," said Engr Md Firoz Kabir.

Sheikh Jasim Uddin, chairman and MD of AKIJ Resource Group, expressed confidence that the project would elevate financial inclusion, innovation, and technology-driven banking in the country.

He added that a reputed organisation like AKIJ Resource will play a significant role in Bangladesh's economic development and inclusive growth.
