South Korean star Lee Jung-Jae, best known for his role in 'Squid Game' as Seong Gi-hun, has been the victim of an impersonation scam that defrauded a woman of around $360,000, according to police reports.
The victim, a woman in her 50s identified as Ms A, was deceived by a scammer posing as the actor. Using AI-generated visuals, altered photographs, and fake images of airports and film sets, the fraudster built a fake persona and gained her trust by calling her affectionate names.
After establishing an emotional bond, the scammer persuaded Ms A to transfer 500 million KRW. Police in Miryang, Gyeongnam Province, revealed that the culprit is linked to a Cambodian crime syndicate, heightening global concern about online celebrity impersonation and romance scams.
