Police have detained a man and a woman with 8kg of cannabis from the Dhaka metro rail's Shewrapara metro station.
Police have not yet confirmed their identities.
The duo were detained around 4pm today (24 November), Additional Superintendent of Police (admin and ops) Md Abu Ashraf Siddiqi told The Business Standard.
Describing the incident, he said that as part of the recently enhanced security checks, officers searched a large bag carried by the two suspects at Shewrapara Station and recovered the cannabis.
During preliminary questioning, the detainees said they planned to board at Shewrapara and get off at the Motijheel Station to reach their destination.
They also admitted to transporting cannabis on the metro twice before.
Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Police Superintendent Akter Kaniz Hossain Jahan said the two detainees have been handed over to Kafrul Police Station.
A case will be filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act, the police superintendent said.
