A total of 198 murders have taken place in the capital over the last ten months, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

The information was shared by DMP Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman while briefing journalists on Tuesday (18 November).

He said on average, around 20 murders occurred in Dhaka each month during the period, and police have been able to uncover the motives behind most of the incidents.

Regarding the killing of Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibriya in Pallabi, the DMP official said police are currently investigating the case. So far, one suspect has been detained, and the remaining two accused are still on the run. The reason behind the murder will become clear soon after the other two are arrested.

Earlier, on Monday (17 November) at around 6:40pm, Golam Kibriya was shot dead inside a hardware shop in C Block, near the old Pallabi Police Station.

CCTV footage shows three masked and helmeted individuals entering the shop and shooting him from close range. The assailants killed Kibriya and fled the scene in just 10 seconds, according to the footage.
