13th National Election: BNP nominates 10 women, including Khaleda Zia

13th National Election: BNP nominates 10 women, including Khaleda Zia

BNP has nominated ten female candidates, including its Chairperson Khaleda Zia, for the the upcoming national election expected to be held in February next year.

The nominees are: Khaleda Zia from Bogura-7, Dinajpur-3, and Feni 1; Farzana Sharmin from Natore-1; Sabira Sultana from Jashore-2; Sansila Zebrin Priyanka from Sherpur-1; Israt Sultana Elen Bhutto from Jhalakathi-2; Afroza Khanam Rita from Manikganj-3; Maayer Daak founder Sanjida Islam Tuli from Dhaka-14; Shama Obayed Islam from Faridpur-2; Nayab Yusuf Kamal from Faridpur-3; and Tahsina Rushdir Luna from Sylhet-2.

The announcement was made by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press briefing this evening at the party chairperson's office in Dhaka's Gulshan.

Fakhrul announced possible candidates for 237 constituencies and did not announce candidates for some constituencies to leave room for allies.

He added that the standing committee may withdraw or revise the announced nominations if necessary.

BNP had nominated 13 female candidates, mostly wives and relatives of party leaders, for the 11th National Election in 2018, according to media reports.

The party nominated 13 women in the 2008 election as well.
